About Guizhou Medical University
Founded in 1938, Guizhou Medical University (GMU), then National Guiyang Medical College， was the first batch of medical universities in China. It has gone through two times of renaming, one in 1950 as Guiyang Medical College, one in 2015 as Guizhou Medical University. It is the only provincial key university to carry out medical bachelor program all the way to medical doctoral program in Guizhou Province
After seven decades of trial blazing in medical education，GMU now holds North and South Campuses covering a total area of 1868 acres, holding 19097 full time students. The teaching equipments worth 309 million RMB, holding 1.74 million books in the library. With 20 teaching schools and departments covers seven disciplines of medicine, science, engineering, education, law and management. Of all the 1417 full time staff, there are 1067 full time teachers, of which 259 of them hold PhD degree.
GMU was renowned for its 9 provincial key disciplines, 4 provincial special disciplines, 4 national tertiary education units, 1 national laboratory teaching exemplary center, 1 national teaching exemplary team, 3 national key secondary education majors, 3 key laboratories approved by the Ministry of Education, 7 provincial key majors, 5 provincial clinical key majors, 1 Ministry of Education approved Development and Application Center of Ethnodrugs, 2 provincial key laboratories, 8 provincial exemplary undergraduate majors, 4 provincial teaching exemplary centers and 2 provincial teaching exemplary teams.
GMU has attached great importance to the foreign exchange and cooperation. It is the brotherhood university of Soochow University. GMU has established exchange program and scientific cooperation with universities and institutes from over 30 countries and regions, including U.S, U.K,Japan,South KoreaandThailand. With the co-founded China-U.S and China-U.K Joint Laboratory, GMU is the scientific cooperation base of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Since 2008, GMU actively co-hosted the Medical Education Forum of China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week and China-U.S Clinical Medicine Transitional Medical Forum of Annual Meeting of China Association for Science and Technology. Furthermore, GMU launched its oversea students program in MBBS since 2013 and holds more than 150 oversea students fromIndia,Pakistan,Cambodia,NigeriaandGhana.
